Salivary Gland Disorders

These range from simple blockage problems through to recurrent infections which have the potential to damage the structure of the gland over time, to benign and malignant tumours.

Malignant tumours are uncommon and the majority of swellings in salivary glands are due to either infection or benign tumour. Diagnosis often involves MRI scanning. A fine needle can be used to obtain a sample of cells which may also assist in diagnosis
